MY TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

As a teacher, I play many roles. I am of course an educator, but to my students, I am also a mentor and a friend. Through this unique one-on-one relationship, I strive to foster within my students a will to grow and an outlet for expression. I believe that this relationship is paramount in a student’s life in order to allow them to exhibit the benefits of music both in work ethic and in their personal lives. Music lessons are a place to learn both the simplicities and the complexities of music but also to learn about ourselves. Through music is how I learned to express myself and, for my students, I wish the same. They will learn how to translate emotions through sounds, and they will learn what encourages them to work harder. Because of this, I encourage in my students an open mind and the desire to improve.

“Maria is an amazing musician, performer and instructor for my two middle school aged children. She is very organized, professional, upbeat, attentive and has a keen sense of their abilities. She challenges them while keeping it fun, so they continue to want to play and do their best. We are so grateful to have found her and we highly recommend her!”

“Maria is an absolutely brilliant musician and teacher. She has taught for my studio, Mobile Music, for the last 5 years, and engages her students in creative ways, and pushes them to reach their best musicianship. Her knowledge of repertoire, playing technique and theory enlightens her students. She is approachable, kind and enjoys building relationships with her students. I have had the privilege of collaborating with Maria, and her musicianship is outstanding, both technically and emotionally. If you are lucky to catch a concert of hers, you are surely in for an excellent listening experience.”

— Adam, founder of Mobile Music LLC

“Maria is a kind and patient teacher who, despite her own exceptional talent, always makes her students feel at ease. She kept my middle school daughter engaged by giving her the flexibility to choose pieces that appealed to her, whether it be classical, jazz or pop. Maria also produces well-rounded students by combining theory, dynamics, composition and improvisation exercises. She is wonderful and we highly recommend her!”
